Montana Charter Schools
Montana charter schools are tuition-free public schools operated independently from traditional district schools. They receive per-pupil state funding like traditional public schools but have greater autonomy to design curriculum and operations. Montana authorized charter schools beginning in 2024.

Tuition: $0 – Completely FREE. Montana law explicitly prohibits charter schools from charging tuition or fees.
Current Status – NEW in 2024:
- 22 public charter schools approved and operating across Montana as of December 2025
- First 17 charters opened for 2024-25 school year
