New Jersey Interdistrict Public School Choice

The New Jersey Interdistrict Public School Choice Program lets students attend a participating public school outside their home district, tuition-free. It was established as a pilot in 2000 and made permanent in 2010.

• 119 choice districts participating for the 2026–27 school year
• ~5,000 students currently enrolled through the program
• ~2,500 students on waiting lists
• Approximate annual program budget: $62 million
• Application deadline is typically in November for the following school year
• Transportation may be provided depending on distance and district policy
