Arkansas Public School Transfers
Arkansas public school transfers allow students in traditional public schools to transfer to another public school outside their assigned district boundaries.
How Public School Transfers Work: Families may apply to transfer their children to public schools in neighboring districts if those districts have available capacity and choose to accept transfer students.
Application Timing: January 1 – May 1 annually for transfers effective the following school year.
Key Considerations:
- Accepting districts have discretion over whether to allow transfers
- Transportation is typically the family’s responsibility
- Transfer students must meet the same academic and behavioral standards as resident students
- Transfer approval may be revoked for disciplinary or academic reasons
Cost: Free. Public school transfers do not involve tuition or fees.
