Ohio supports educational freedom for families through seven key programs: the Autism Scholarship Program, Cleveland Scholarship Program, EdChoice Income-Based (Expansion) Scholarship, Traditional EdChoice Scholarship, Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship
Ohio Autism Scholarship Program
The Ohio Autism Scholarship Program (ASP) provides families of students with autism the choice to send their child to a special education program other than the one operated by their local school district. The program aims to increase educational options and access to services outlined in the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). Families can choose from more than 250 schools, therapists, and agencies.
Ohio Cleveland Scholarship Program
The Cleveland Scholarship provides educational choices for children in K-12th grade in the Cleveland Municipal School District. This Ohio school choice program offers scholarships to attend participating private schools, increasing access to quality education for eligible students.
Ohio EdChoice Income-Based (Expansion) Scholarship Program
The Ohio EdChoice Income-Based (Expansion) Scholarship Program aims to increase educational options for Ohio families by providing state-funded scholarships for K-12 students to attend participating private schools based on their household income level. This program supports families with varying income levels to ensure private education becomes a feasible option for a wider range of students.
Ohio Traditional EdChoice Scholarship Program
The Ohio Traditional EdChoice Scholarship Program provides state-funded scholarships for students in grades K-12 who are attending or will attend public schools designated by the Ohio Department of Education as underperforming. This Ohio school choice program allows families to use these scholarships to attend participating private schools that best suit their children’s needs.
Ohio Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship Program
The Jon Peterson Special Needs (JPSN) Scholarship Program provides scholarships to K-12 students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) from their public school district. This scholarship allows students to attend approved special education programs other than the one operated by their resident school district. The program thereby increases access to services outlined in the student’s IEP.
Ohio K-12 Home Education Tax Credit
The Ohio K-12 Home Education Tax Credit allows families who homeschool their children to claim a nonrefundable tax credit of up to $250 per year. This credit supports homeschooling families by offsetting the costs of educational expenses.
Ohio K-12 Non-chartered Non-public School Tax Credit
Ohio supports educational choice through the Ohio K-12 on-chartered Non-public School Tax Credit Program. Families can claim tax credits for tuition paid to eligible non-chartered private schools based on Ohio state standards.
