Summary

The Ohio Income-Based Scholarship, also known as EdChoice Expansion, aims to increase educational options and school choice for Ohio families by providing state-funded scholarships for K-12 students to attend participating private schools based on their household income level. There are over 450 participating private schools that accept scholarship students.

Student Funding

Funding Type: Voucher

Students whose family’s adjusted gross income is at or below 450% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPL) are eligible to receive:

  • Grades K-8: $6,165
  • Grades 9-12: $8,407

Private schools must accept the scholarship as full tuition for families with incomes below 200% of the FPL.

Students whose family’s adjusted gross income is above 450% FPL will receive a reduced scholarship based on the family’s adjusted gross income level and will be responsible for any additional tuition.

The scholarship will pay up to the designated amount, or the amount of the school’s tuition, if less. The program’s annual funding allocation from the state limits the number of scholarships.

Student Eligibility

Any Ohio student entering grades K-12 can apply, unless they are eligible for the traditional EdChoice or the Cleveland Scholarship
