How does this program work?
The Lindsey Nicole Henry (LNH) Scholarship for Children with Disabilities allows families of an eligible child to choose a private school for their child. The LNH Scholarship offers children with disabilities access to quality education tailored to their needs as outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Why this matters to families in Oklahoma:
Some children thrive when they have access to a school that offers a different educational setting or learning approach. The Lindsey Nicole Henry (LNH) Scholarship for Children with Disabilities program lets parents choose a private school to better support their child’s growth.
Award amounts for 2025-2026
Voucher
The Oklahoma LNH Scholarship for Children with Disabilities offers approximately $8,000 towards the cost of tuition at eligible private schools. The award covers the amount granted or the actual tuition for the eligible private school, whichever is less.
Who is eligible for this program?
Eligibility for the Oklahoma LNH Scholarship for Children with Disabilities includes:
- A student who has an Individualized Service Plan developed by the Department of Human Services (DHS)
- A student who is a child of a military family with permanent change of station orders who has moved to Oklahoma after receiving Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) services in another state
- A student served through the SoonerStart program who has been determined to be eligible for school district services
- A student who has been in out-of-home placement through the Office of Juvenile Affairs
- A student who has been in out-of-home placement with DHS
- A student who was adopted while in the permanent custody of DHS
Students eligible as public school students served under IDEA receive the scholarship if they have an IEP before the request. In addition, the student must have attended a public school in Oklahoma during the previous school year. SoonerStart children and military children are exempt from the public school attendance requirement but must have an IEP.
How can families use the funds?
The Oklahoma State Department of Education determines the scholarship amount awarded each school year. Families can use the funds for tuition at their child’s eligible private school. If the eligible private school’s actual tuition is less than the scholarship amount, the scholarship only covers the actual tuition cost.
